Twitch Now Letting You Tip Streamers Without Spending Money

Around June this year, Twitch announced that they will rolling a new feature called Cheering. This basically allows viewers to tip streamers by sending them animated emotes called “bits”. It’s a similar concept to how “mukbang” streamers in Korea get tipped, which is through balloon emojis.

To purchase bits, you’ll have to spend actual money. It costs $1.40 for 100 emotes.

If you don’t like the idea of paying for bits, Twitch has announced that they will now let users Cheer Twitch streamers by sending bits without having to spend a single cent. This will be accomplished through ads. Nosurprise there.

“We’ve started rolling out a new way for Twitch viewers in the US to get Bits for activity on Twitch without spending cash. In this case, the activity is watching a 30-second interactive ad.”
