Amazon launches its own virtual currency, Amazon Coins

Amazon has launched its own virtual currency called Amazon coins.

The coin which is available for Kindle fire owners can be used to purchase app, games and in-app items from the amazon app store. as announced earlierAmazon coins will only be available in the United states but there is a possibility of it being rolled out to other parts of the world in the coming months.

According to amazon the launch of the new Amazon Coins program is one way for developers to make more money since it will make it easier for shoppers to purchase apps and games.


“Today we are giving Kindle Fire owners $5 worth of Coins to spend on new apps and games, or to purchase in-app items, such as recipes in iCookbook, song collections in SongPop or mighty falcon bundles in Angry Birds Star Wars. And with discounts of up to 10% when you buy Coins, this is a great way for customers to save money when they buy apps, games and in-app items,” said Mike George, Vice President of Apps and Games at Amazon. “We will continue to add more ways to earn and spend Coins on a wider range of content and activities—today is Day One for Coins.”

Since Appstore has been expanded to more countries, covering nearly 200 countries, the amazon coins might also follow suit.
