Google will automatically encrypt cloud data by default

Google cloudGoogle's cloud storage service will now automatically encrypt all their customers' data by default for free.

Although Google's intention are to protect their customers against hackers, the new push towards a cloud storage security comes at a time when there is a lot of anxiety over government spying.

Google also said that the new server-side encryption is already active for all new data that is written to Cloud Storage, and older objects will also be migrated and encrypted “in the coming months.”
