Google may buy WhatsApp for $1 Billion

The widely popular social media app WhatsApp may soon belong to Google. According to unconfirmed reports, Google is negotiating the acquisition of this popular cross platform messaging service and the negotiation are said to have started about a month ago.

The reports also said that currently the negotiations are over the pricing of the deal and if the deal goes through, this will the second company in less than two years to acquire an application service for a billion bucks after Facebook left the world astonished when they purchased Instagram for the same price last year.

It is still unclear what google plans to do with WhatsApp considering reports that it is planning to launch its own messaging service known as Babel mid or late this year. Google hasn't been doing well in the IM market and this makes sense why the company might be considering acquiring the messenger service.

This is second time we are hearing reports of Whatsapp takeover. Facebook reportedly made an offer last year but was denied.
